My name is Ashley Akins. I teach 6th grade science and social studies at Buffalo Prairie Middle School. This is my first year teaching and I couldn't be more excited! I want to take a minute to tell you a little bit about me. I was born and raised in Dallas County. I grew up in Long Lane but attended Dallas County schools K-12th grade. Dallas County is my home. It is here that I know am raising my family along with my husband, Jeff. Together we share three beautiful children who keep us going all the time. My oldest Harper is in 2nd grade, Presley will be going to 1st grade this year, then we have our baby boy Jude who is 2. We enjoy being outside together, going on walks, crafting together, attending and serving at our local church, and just being together. I love raising my family in Dallas County. It's the absolute best place to live and now teach at. I'm honored to be teaching at the school I received so much from and only hope I can encourage and inspire my students to go out pursue their dreams as well. I'm looking forward to meeting each of you. I know this year is going to be very exciting and full of learning! Learning about Science and Social Studies is so important. Science is all around us. We interact with different materials, objects, people, and living things daily. It's impossible not to be curious and excited about understanding the vast world around us. Studying history allows us to gain understanding and knowledge from those before us. We can examine events, artifacts, cultures to learn about the people before us and how the world was then. Learning is never ending! We gain knowledge from each other as well and the different perspectives we all have. I'm excited to see what each of you will bring to the classroom. I know you will amaze me and teach me everyday as much I hope I will teach you.
